The puja is a ritual supposed to cause the descent of a deity inside one of a statue. The invocation begins with the tinkling of a bell, which calls the deity. It continues with the offering of flowers, goods or incense, accompanied by music and recitation of mantras. The pûjâ is celebrated in the temples by the Brahmans. In the home, the head of the family provides the pûjâ.
